The last time we lifted heavy at Norwest and Raw was quite some time ago. It is about time that we did some more heavy stuff! As you are aware I am in an astroboy boot due to an injury to my lower leg. In this mornings AM session I gave lifting in it ago and easily pulled up 205kg. I thought I might join in with the 0930 class as there are no novice lifters there and everyone has good technique.

The main emphasis today apart from lifting heavy was technique. If you could not get the bar off the groud keeping all muscles tight, controlled and strong then the lift was aborted. With the exception of an extremely strong back or experience in lifting near the elite level.

Warmed up practising weak skills. As I am coming back from a shoulder reconstruction I performed handstand push ups HSPU, pull ups, hang power snatch and muscle ups. After 3 rounds it was time to lift.

Starting light and building in weight and dropping weights I started my lifts at 180, 200, 230, 240, 250. When I lifted 250 I was happy. It had been ages since I had lifted heavy my foot is injured. I should have called it quites then. I pulled 260kg with relative ease and thought hey why not try 265. Got it up with a pause at mid thigh but there was no way I was going to let that bar go. It was either getting up or ripping all the skin off my hand as it fell to the ground. It got up! The biggest hurdle in CrossFit is the tricks the mind plays on you. You can always go heavier, faster, longer. You just have to believe you can!
