The key to this program is not only to provide additional advanced training to team members but also to provide team based workouts and training which teach strategy, enhance cohesion, mateship and synchronisity (literally!). Gone are the days where CrossFit Games teams were a mish mash of advanced athletes, now the team competition has become big business in its own right with the best carefully selecting team members and training as a unit year round.
If you look at the team competition programming from this year’s Regionals the emphasis is placed more and more on the ability to synchronise movements and communicate as a unit. There were only two workouts where movements were completed individually – the snatch workout (which still required communication and strategy to ensure all team members could optimise their score) and the rope climb/thruster workout – which was around 3mins per team member. Every other event involved things such as synchronised burpees, synchronised toes to bar, partner deadlifts, shared/rotational work etc.
The Raw squad/team program workouts will vary from pairs, to threes to sixes with same and mixed sexes. The program will have 4-5 workouts per week which can be split throughout the week or bundled into a comp squad training day.
