You may have noticed power sports are becoming more and more popular. Previously elitist sports such as strongman were inaccessable to the everyday Joe, or athletes looking for a new challenge but that’s starting to change. We’ve all seen the World Strongest Man late at night on ESPN, larger than life individuals lifting weights that are unimaginable to the “regular” human. NOW many strongman federations have weight divisions and more and more local, state and national competitions are beginning to appear.
BUT HOW DO YOU TRAIN FOR STRONGMAN???????? Strongman training is about TRUE functional strength – lifting and moving heavy and awkward objects, just as we would in real life. Contrary to popular belief a good strongman training program combines strength and power training, with odd object work AND general physical preparedness (GPP) – YES, even strongmen and woman need a good endurance base to optimise their performance in the sport.
